Ericksonian Hypnotherapist
Music Therapist
Hannah Murphy
Hi, I’m Hannah.
I’m a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Strategic Psychotherapist, and I work with people who feel stuck in their own minds – whether that’s anxiety, low self-worth, people-pleasing, or struggling to hold boundaries. So often, this isn’t something you can think your way out of. It’s a nervous system reset – a shift at the subconscious level, where these patterns were created in the first place.
I’m especially passionate about working with creatives and artists – the performers brilliant in rehearsal but shut down under pressure, the writers and musicians blocked by the fear of being fully seen. If you’ve ever thought, “I know it gives me anxiety and I know why it feels hard to be seen, but it doesn’t change the issue” – that’s exactly the work I do.
How I work in session
Rather than working from pre-written scripts, I use a dynamic Ericksonian approach – responsive, conversational, and tailored to whatever you bring into the room each session. The work itself is about understanding how patterns were created in the first place, and then gently shifting them at a subconscious level to create lasting, positive change.
Hypnosis is simply an altered state of focused awareness – something we all drift in and out of every day, often without realising it. In session, that natural state becomes a space where the mind opens to new perspectives, new responses, and new ways of being. You stay in control the whole time. Nothing is forced. The shifts happen because, at a deeper level, you’re ready for them.
How I found hypnotherapy
After working as a music therapist for a few years, I became fascinated by GIM (Guided Imagery and Music) – a modality where clients enter a trance state, supported through music. While researching it, I found myself disappearing down a rabbit hole, and that’s where I first encountered hypnotherapy.
Something clicked immediately. The immediacy of the results, the life-changing impact it can have – it felt completely aligned with who I am and the kind of work I wanted to do. I’d also seen friends transformed by hypnotherapy in their own lives, from quitting smoking to shifting things they’d carried for years. As someone naturally curious and exploratory – and someone who loves helping people feel their best and step into the version of themselves they want to become – I knew this was my next adventure. I dove in. And I haven’t looked back since.
My background
Alongside my Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy, I’ve trained directly with Greg Thompson at the Australian Hypnosis Training Academy, deepening my work with advanced Ericksonian and conversational hypnosis methodology under his mentorship.
I also bring a rich background as a Registered Music Therapist with a Master of Music Therapy and over five years’ clinical experience – primarily supporting autistic children and young people, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, and eating disorders through trauma-informed, neuro-affirming care. That therapeutic depth informs the attunement and sensitivity I bring to every hypnotherapy session.
Outside the clinic, I’m an Alt-Country music artist – I sing and play guitar. That creative life gives me firsthand understanding of the vulnerability, exposure, and performance pressure my artist clients know so well.
If you’re ready to shift what’s been holding you back, I’d love to work with you.
